At today’s Council meeting, Councillors approved budget that will see The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight come to Ayr’s Low Green from 8 – 10 September this year.
Officers will now ramp up the pace to get everything in place to bring a breath-taking, must-see event to South Ayrshire.
South Ayrshire Council can only deliver such an event with the support of a range of partners. They are therefore delighted to announced that Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd. have signed up to become a major sponsor of the new air show.
Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd. will join forces with the Council; strategic partner, theSKYLAB; and event charity partner, The RAF Benevolent Fund to deliver a spectacular three-day festival.
More sponsorship is on the cards following a recent business engagement event that was held at Ayr Town Hall.
South Ayrshire Council want to encourage as many local businesses as possible to share in what’s shaping up to be an amazing festival. By becoming part of the air show, businesses will be able to support the local community. They’ll also play a role in promoting growth and development across South Ayrshire, resulting in a positive economic impact on the local area.
The business engagement event saw representatives from the local business community come together to discover more about the council’s proposals to deliver the air show, and their ambition to raise awareness of the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects with local young people.
Underpinning the whole festival is the council’s ongoing engagement with local children and young people to help them gain confidence and inspire them to learn about, and even consider a career in the STEM sectors.
Those who attendedo the business engagement event heard from our strategic partner, theSKYLAB, whose mission is to reach out to young people from all backgrounds to help guide them to achieve their potential in STEM subjects, which could ultimately lead to rewarding careers in these areas. With the global aerospace industry estimated to be worth over £3 trillion by the year 2030, it’s critical for the local and UK economy that more young people choose STEM subjects at school.
Also represented at the engagement event was the new air show charity partner, The RAF Benevolent Fund. Their CEO and Controller, Air Vice-Marshal Chris Elliot, spoke to raise awareness of the essential work that’s carried out by the charity. For over a century, the charity has supported members of the RAF Family, providing practical, emotional, and financial support whenever they need it.
With funding secured and key partners in place, South Ayrshire Council are now in the best possible position to deliver what will undoubtedly be the highlight of the Scottish events calendar this year.

South Ayrshire Council has confirmed that the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows, will appear at this year’s International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight.
Widely regarded as the world’s best formation aerobatic display team, The Red Arrows will take to the skies above Ayr’s shoreline to perform a breath-taking aerial sequence.
The iconic display team will be the highlight of this much anticipated event, when they demonstrate precision flying of the highest quality, with the aircraft flying just eight feet apart, at speeds in excess of 400 miles per hour.
Flying Display Director, Les Garside-Beattie OBE, will co-ordinate The Red Arrows and other impressive aircraft displays at the event.
The action-packed festival will run over a period of three days, from Friday 8 – Sunday 10 September. There will be a whole host of great family entertainment on offer throughout the weekend, with the main attraction, the aerial displays, taking place on Saturday 9 September.

South Ayrshire Council have confirmed that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) will take to the skies above Ayr shoreline with one of the aviation heroes of World War II – the Spitfire.
The much-admired vintage aircraft will be a key attraction at the International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight, which will take place between 8 – 10 September this year.
Festival-goers will be mesmerised by the iconic sounds and shapes of not one, but two spitfire aircraft that helped to shape our heritage.
Both planes have been lovingly cared for and beautifully maintained by the BBMF and will put on a must-see display at the event on Saturday 9 September.
Also set to stir up a storm at the event is the Royal Air Force’s operational-proven multi-role fighter, the Typhoon.
Not only capable of flying at supersonic speed and sustaining high ‘G’ turns in combat, the Typhoon also uses some highly effective systems to ensure that it remains a most potent airborne platform.
What’s more, there will be two opportunities to see the Typhoon display in action as the team will perform on both Friday 8 and Saturday 9 September.
