The spectacular flying skills of the Red Arrows will star in a mid-afternoon “prime time” slot on both days of the new Great Yarmouth Air Show. The nine Hawks of the RAF’s flagship display fliers will showcase their aerial skills between 3pm and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday June 16 and 17.

A flying schedule just released shows provisional timings for the weekend show – though organisers stress times are subject to change, depending on weather conditions and operational commitments that could take military displays elsewhere at short notice.

Flying display director Ian Sheeley said: “We normally build the schedule around the Red Arrows, who often have other shows to do on the day – but this time we are lucky, we have them to ourselves – which is very rare – and have been able to put them in a prime time slot for the maximum crowds.”

The Red Arrows will be weekending in Norfolk – flying from their Scampton headquarters in Lincolnshire to their temporary base at Norwich Airport where they will be overnighting.

Mr Sheeley added: “We shape the rest of the show around the Red Arrows, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which often has other commitments too, looking to provide a variety of displays for the crowds. It is looking like a really good line up for the first year.”

More than 175,000 people are expected to flock to the resort to get grandstand views of the debut Haven Great Yarmouth Air Show from the seafront. But others may get a glimpse of the aircraft as they fly in from a variety of airfields – including Seething, Beccles, Tibenham, and Old Buckenham.

Love in the air with a Special Airshow Competition

Love is in the air – as the public has the chance to dedicate a giant smoky heart in the sky to a special person during the first day of the Haven Great Yarmouth Air Show.

The offer comes from the Wildcat Aerobatics team whose biplane duo trace the token of love as part of their routine.

But, for the first time, the team is inviting people to dedicate the emblem to a special person as a romantic gesture or a heart-felt thanks.

A competition asks the public to say who the heart should be dedicated to and why – particularly if there is a Great Yarmouth connection.

The winning entry will get a special mention in the commentary during the Wildcats display on Saturday June 16.

To enter visit the air show Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/GreatYarmouthAirShow/  and  comment on the competition post.

Entries close at midnight on June 13 and the winner will be notified by direct message.

The show is organised by the Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area in its drive to bring more visitors and spending power to the area and is expected to provide a £10m boost for the local economy.

People are being encouraged to plan their journeys, leave the car at home if they can, or to book now for Premium parking and park and ride tickets. Visit www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/air-show
