The full line-up of flying displays for the return of Weston Air Show in June has been announced, with the Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers, RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Team Raven just some of the names taking to the skies when the event returns over the weekend of 25th-26th June 2022.
The free to attend two-day festival sees thousands of visitors flock to Weston-super-Mare to gather on the seafront to witness an astounding line-up of aerial entertainment, as well as enjoy the event village on Weston’s beach lawns. It will be the first time the event has run since 2019.
Closing the display on Saturday 25, The Blades – who are a world-famous high-performance aircraft group flown by former Red Arrow pilots – will bring the show to a close with stunning formations over the skies of Weston whilst the mighty RAF Red Arrows will close the whole weekend on Sunday 26.
Another addition to the line-up is the Calidus Autogyro. Like James Bond’s Little Nellie the autogyro may not have the tricks and gadgets of a Q Division aircraft, but its spectacular movements and sycamore flight patterns make it a huge crowd pleaser. The Cheeky Champ display will fly for the first year at the event, towing its colourful ribbon across the skies.
A Weston Air Festival favourite, the Slingsby T67 Firefly is returning to Weston-super-Mare this year for a dynamic and exciting performance alongside the renowned Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers who have performed in over 20 countries with their breathtaking acrobatics.
As well as a weekend of outstanding entertainment in the sky, Weston Air Festival offers airshow fans the chance to enjoy a whole host of family-friendly fun along the seafront and beach lawns and once again incorporates the town’s Armed Forces Day celebrations. The event village will feature exhibition stands, food stalls, family activities and fairgrounds, as well as the chance to meet RAF crews up close and personal, ensuring there’s plenty to see and do at ground level.
Councillor Mark Canniford, North Somerset Council’s executive member for placemaking and economy, said: “The Weston Air Festival is a fantastic crowd-puller and a great advert for the area. Months of planning go into an event of this size and we’re thrilled to be hosting it in Weston-super-Mare once again. With such an impressive entertainment programme and tons of activities stretching across the beach lawns, this family-friendly festival will bring spectacular air displays and flights to Weston’s bay, as well as some good old fashioned seaside fun.”
