An empty weekend in the airshow calendar meant I was able to visit the fantastic Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex. For any motorsports fan, the Festival of Speed is a an absolute must attend event bringing together fabulous cars and drivers from all corners of the motorsport spectrum. The event went ahead as part of the UK Government’s Events Research Programme and therefore was not restricted by the ‘Step 3 Restrctions’ that have shaped much of the summer season so far in 2021.

The highlight of the event is the hill climb where you can get really up close to the cars as they are put through their paces. However, aviation and motorsport have strong links and as part of the entertainment laid on by the Goodwood Estate the Red Arrows and the Blades Aerobatic Team displayed over the beautiful West Sussex countryside. On the day of my visit (Friday), just the Red Arrows displayed in what proved to be the best conditions of the four day event. With public displays by the team being quite rare in 2021 compared to normal times, here is a selection of images from their display over the Sussex Downs.
