Old Buckenham Airfield is delighted to reveal details of its 2020 Calendar; a range of events which will see commemorations of the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the largest instalment yet of the airfield’s Award-Winning Airshow.

Other highlights include the first Halloween Fireworks Spectacular to be held at Old Buckenham and the season ends with the traditional Remembrance Sunday Service at the War Memorial.

The major events on the Calendar will start on the 9th and 10th May with the VE75 Weekend. All weekend vintage car owners and military re-enactors with pre-1945 displays and vehicles will form part of an operation to turn the clock back 75 years for the weekend. The culmination of this will be a truly remarkable spectacle on theevening of the 9th as we welcome the arguably the finest Glen Miller tribute Band in the World.

June 14th will see the ever-popular Wings and Wheels return. Thisevent sees aircraft, classic and exotic cars all descend on the airfield for our annual celebration of internal combustion. This year, however, there’ll be something of a twist as the afternoon will see a planned 90 minute Air Display featuring a mix of modern and vintage iconic aircraft, all flown by the very best pilots in the skies.

August 1st and 2nd will see the 2020 instalment of the Award-Winning Old Buckenham Airshow. For 2020 the Airshow will feature more planned air displays than ever before. Attractions and viewing space on the ground will be increased and the family-friendly credentials which won the Airshow a coveted EDP Hoseasons Tourism Award as Family Event of the Year will be enhanced. In the skies an even greater mix of the most iconic and extraordinary aircraft in the sky will be flown by aviation’s elite.

The Airshow hasn’t just become a fixture in Norfolk’s Calendar, it’s also a much requested booking for truly world class display pilots; the result will be an unmissable weekend.

October the 3rd will see a special Battle of Britain Air Display. From 2pm a range of WWII warbirds will grace the skies over Old Buckenham in tribute to the extraordinary bravery of the pilots who fought from July to October 1940 and turned the tide of World War II. Throughout the morning pre-1940 cars, military vehicles and aircraft will be invited to once again take the airfield back in time.

Halloween, on the 31st October will see another first for the airfield. Working with some leading pyrotechnics experts we’ll be hosting our first ever Fireworks Spectacular, with a range of seasonal food and drink available throughout.

A little over a week later, the most important event of the year will take place and close the season; the traditional Remembrance Sunday Service at the War Memorial to which all are welcome.

Matt Wilkins, Aerodrome Manager and Airshow Organiser: “Old Buckenham has made its way to the top of the rarified world of Air Displays just in time to be able to celebrate some of the most important WWII Anniversaries in 2020. We’re tirelessly to ensure that 2020 will see our best year yet.”
