The RAF Cosford Air Show 2016 raised £115,000 which will be donated to the RAF Association, RAF Benevolent Fund, RAF Charitable Trust, RAF Museum and local charities to further support and encourage those who are involved with the Royal Air Force and the local community.
The primary focus of the RAF Cosford Air Show is to give visitors the opportunity to engage with the Royal Air Force, and to better understand the work they do, not only in the West Midlands and the United Kingdom, but across the world. Air Show Director, Clive Elliott, said “Opening the gates of RAF Cosford is a fantastic chance for the public to see what goes on behind the scenes on an operational Royal Air Force base. With early-bird discounts the Air Show is also a great value for money day out!”
As ever the Air Show will be focused around a selection of themes; ‘Battlefield Support’ is the key operational theme for 2017, with an aim to showcase aircraft which play an important role in times of conflict. As part of this theme, the flying display will feature a unique role demonstration from a pair of BAC Strikemaster Mk.82 jets. As well as a demonstration of impressive close formation flying, the two Strikemasters will also perform a mock airfield attack featuring pyrotechnics which is set to add an explosive element to the flying display!
The theme of showcasing Battlefield Support will not just feature in the air, but also with a number of exciting ground displays. A key attraction on the ground for 2017 will be a simulated ‘Forward Operating Base’ which will include vehicles and weapons from across the Ministry of Defence as well as an array of military helicopters. Peter Reoch, Air Show Operations Manager, said “We’re really excited about our operational theme of Battlefield Support and we’re working to secure aircraft from the UK & Overseas to complement the theme. It’s early days but already we think that this year’s displays will be bigger and better than ever before!”
The RAF Cosford Air Show is one of the West Midland’s most popular outdoor events, with over 50,000 people visiting the show in 2016. The Air Show will again be an Advanced Ticket Only event, a decision which has helped the organising team improve traffic management in recent years. Those who book their tickets early will also be rewarded with a reduced ‘early-bird’ ticket price of only £22.00 which is recommended to avoid disappointment.
