We are delighted to announce a series of aviation event days at IWM Duxford in 2015, offering pilots and aviation groups the opportunity to enjoy a fascinating day out at IWM Duxford, landing on our historic airfield and experiencing our renowned exhibitions and heritage.
The Duxford Fly-In
Sunday 7 June
The Duxford Fly-In is open to all pilots to experience flying into IWM Duxford’s historic airfield.
At 2.30pm, you can enjoy a presentation by Sarah Hanna, proprietor of the Old Flying Machine Company, which is based at IWM Duxford, and can get up close to Supermarine Spitfire MH434, operated by the Old Flying Machine Company.
MH434 was built in 1943 at Vickers in Castle Bromwich. It was air-tested by the legendary Alex Henshaw, Chief Test Pilot for the Supermarine Company at Castle Bromwich.
Once on active service, MH434 was allocated to South African pilot Flight Lieutenant Henry Lardner-Burke DFC at 222 Squadron. After 80 operational sorties, MH434 was stood down in March 1945.
Hear about MH434’s wartime history and post-war experiences through to its current guise as a star of film, TV and air shows displays. To book a place for this enthralling talk, please call 01223 833 376. You’ll need to book your place for this talk in addition to booking your place on the Duxford Fly-In.
Duxford Aviation Society is offering tours of the de Havilland Comet, Avro York, Handley Page Hermes and Concorde which it owns and maintains for visitors to enjoy. To explore these historic civil aircraft, make your booking in the Tower Briefing Room on Sunday 7 June.
You’ll also enjoy a discounted landing fee of £7 and the opportunity to explore IWM Duxford and its fascinating exhibitions.
