Abingdon Air And Country Show 2007
The traditional starting point of the airshow season over the last few years has been the Abingdon Air & Country Show. From quite humble beginnings, Neil Porter and his team of volunteers have grown this event into one of the most respected events on the Calendar. 2007 saw an eclectic mix of aircraft take part in the afternoon flying displays with everything from the Messerschmitt Bf108 Taifun through the graceful lines of Delta Jets Hawker Hunter T7 in the colours of the Blue Diamonds aerobatic team.
Unfortunately some brisk winds and a forecast of worsening weather throughout the day rather depleted the fly-in action either side of the main flying displays. A few intrepid pilots did make to Abingdon plus there was some pleasure flight courtesy of Air Atlantique. Their Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer was particularly busy crewed by Jon Gowdy and Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson.
A very familiar line-up of military aircraft also participated. However, there was the unusual sight of a solo Army Air Corps Westland Gazelle AH1 display in lieu of the full Blue Eagles display due to illness.
