IWM Duxford Autumn Air Show
The 2006 Autumn Air Show was perhaps the best Duxford airshow of the year. Some glorious autumnal sunshine was matched with a stellar cast of warbirds and international military displays. The show was opened by the Patrouille de France national jet team and also featured flypasts from the United State Air Force and displays from the Belgian Air Force. These included Lt Col Paul Rorive final display in the Fouga Magister before it is finally retired from service. The Belgian F-16AM Fighting Falcon solo display was also in the line-up not only performing its own stunning display but also a series of flypasts with Rod Dean flying ARCo’s Supermarine Spitfire XVIII. This routine was first seen in Belgium at the Beauvechain international at the beginning of September.
There were some wonderful big warbird set pieces including a trio of North American P-51 Mustangs and a classic Duxford Spitfire formation to close the day’s flying. The show also provided a backdrop to the filming of BBC’s Silent Witness drama around the American Air Museum during the event.
