RAFA Shoreham Airshow 2006
A new mid-September date for the RAFA Shoreham Airshow played dividends in 2006. It gave the organisers the weekend almost to themselves ensuring some excellent participation from the warbird community and also happened to be very pleasant weather wise.
A first for Shoreham was the ‘Scramble Scenario’ combining the Messerschmitt Bf108 Taifun, two Hawker Hurricanes and five Supermarine Spitfires in a twenty minute sequence augmented by pyrotechnics and Dad’s Army re-enactors. It was very well received by the audience.
The show was also the last in the UK for the Utterly Butterly Barnstormers. To mark the milestone they presented a full four-ship routine to mark the end of St. Ivel’s sponsorship ahead of a change to the Guinot cosmetic company in 2007.
The show also featured a full display by the Eurofighter Typhoon T1 for the first time after the flypasts seen in 2005.
