Airbourne, Eastbourne International Airshow 2006
The Eastbourne International Airshow otherwise known as “Airbourne” is now recognised as the world’s biggest seafront airshow. With four days of flying and attracting nearly a million people over four days it is not hard to see why. The show is always a prime event for the Royal Air Force and the show once again benefited from participation from most of their display teams. Both the Royal Navy and Army Air Corps also sent their historic flights for the flying display. There was also a small, but very high quality collection of acts from civilian operators.
However, it was the international military participation that made Eastbourne stand out. Both the Belgian and Royal Netherlands Air Forces returned both showcasing search and rescue demonstrations. They also both had solo jets in the flying with the Belgian sending the popular Fouga Magister and the Netherlands F-16AM Fighting Falcon solo display. However, perhaps the star turn of the four day show was the French Air Force Dassault Mirage 2000C solo visiting Eastbourne for the first time.
