VE Day Anniversary Air Show, IWM Duxford
IWM Duxford’s celebrations to mark the 60th Anniversary of VE Day saw a two-day airshow staged at the famous fighter station. The show concentrated on the warbirds from the Duxford based collections. A highlight was the appearance of Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 R4118 which flew alongside the Fighter Collection’s Hurricane IV. The event also saw Wing Commander Bob Foster reunited with R4118, a Hurricane in which Bob damaged a pair of Junkers Ju88s and claimed a share of a kill of a third Ju88.
As well as the historic aircraft, Duxford’s first major airshow of the year saw strong military involvement from the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Army Air Corps plus the United States Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles based at RAF Lakenheath.
