IWM Duxford closed out the 2003 Display Season with its Autumn Air Show which this year took on a ‘At the Movies’ theme. It was also the final chance to see the Breitling Fighters display in the UK and it also proved to the last public appearance for OFMC’s Lavochkin La-9.

The 2003 Autumn Air Show saw several fond farewells. Tom Moloney flew his last display in his BAC Strikemaster wearing the colours of the Ecuadorian Air Force which had been a popular addition to the display circuit in the preceding display seasons. However the biggest goodbyes were reserved for some of the Old Flying Machine Company’s fleet. With the impending departure of the OFMC Curtiss P-40E Warhawk and Goodyear FG-1D Corsair to New Zealand, the Autumn Air Show saw the last UK display by the incredible Breitling Fighters team which set new standards in warbird flying. Joining the Warhawk and Corsair will by the Lavochkin La-9 which flew one last display in company with the Fighter Collection’s P-40N Warhawk in an Eastern Front combination.
