25 More Years for the Mighty Buccaneer

Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground. Lutterworth, Leicestershire, LE17 5QS

    https://www.facebook.com/Tbagbruntingthorpe/

In March 1994 the Blackburn Buccaneer low level bomber was retired from RAF service after over 30 years service with the Royal Navy and the RAF.
Since then The Buccaneer Aviation Group based at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire have made it our mission to ensure that the Mighty Buccaneer will never be forgotten.

To celebrate this historic occasion, our two Buccaneers, XW544 and XX894 will be performing fast taxi runs and our exhibition ready cockpit section XW550 will be open for viewing.

Hopefully a few aircraft from Bruntingthorpe will be static plus other exhibits and aviation related traders. Refreshments etc will be available.
(All subject to aircraft availability and operational requirements)

    De Havilland Day

Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby, Lincolnshire, PE23 4DE

    https://www.lincsaviation.co.uk/events/Special-Events/de-havilland-day.htm

Come and celebrate the famous De Havilland Mosquito and other De Havilland designs with our De Havilland Day.

We are hoping for this to be the first public running of the Mosquito on two engines (engineering permitting) and to combine this with a celebration of all things De Havilland.

Along with the scheduled aircraft runs below we will also have some large model flying and some warbird flying displays.

There are a few restoration projects around the world at the moment and for this event we will be giving one of the British projects the chance to showcase their efforts and plans.  During the day they will be presenting a talk to the public in the hangar where you can learn about their project for the coming years.

We are hoping that the weather will be sufficiently good enough for some vintage aircraft fly ins for static display.

75th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings

    Portsmouth, Hampshire

    https://www.visitportsmouth.co.uk/d-day-75

Events will be held in Normandy and around the UK this June. Portsmouth, where much of the landing force sailed from in 1944, will be the focal point of the UK commemorations and will host the UK national event on 5 June. The council is also planning a series of events over 5 days to reflect the area’s unique role in one of the largest and well-known military operations ever.

The commemorative event will include a military parade along the seafront, music including performances by military bands, readings by VIP's and a flypast featuring period aircraft. Other features will include a Royal Collection Trust exhibition, screenings to show the Normandy Commemorations live and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. The first 'Portsmouth Revival festival' celebrating the food, music, dancing and vehicles of the time will also be held. Portsmouth’s activity will culminate in a Sunset Concert for Heroes, acts include the Military Wives Choir and the D-Day Darlings.

Before sunset on the 5 June, MV Boudicca, a specially-chartered ship for 300 Normandy veterans, procured by funds from The Royal British Legion and a LIBOR grant from HM Treasury, will then transport veterans across the channel to Normandy escorted by a Royal Navy vessel, representing their famous crossing 75 years before.

    Daedalus D-Day 75

    Solent Airport, Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire. PO13 9FZ

    http://www.fareham.gov.uk/leisure/out_and_about_in_fareham/dday75.aspx

Plans are underway for a large event at Solent Airport at Daedalus on 8 June 2019 from 10am to 4pm. It will be a fitting place to join in the festivities as Daedalus was the busiest military airfield on the south coast on D-Day.

Fun fair rides, children's activities, market stalls and stage performances from local groups in arena performances are all set to take place as part of the Daedalus celebrations. Aircraft will also be a key feature and further details will be released as soon as the final arrangements are in place.

Chairman of the Daedalus Steering Group, Cllr Trevor Cartwright, said: "This is going to be a huge event and one which we don't want anyone to miss out on – so please do put the date in your diaries.

"D-Day is a day we should all remember and mark and because of Daedalus' significance during the war, it is fitting to have a commemoration event at the site.

"Council officers are currently putting together plans to ensure this is a day to remember. So, make sure you don't miss out on what will be the biggest event of next year."

Tickets will go on sale in the New Year once the programme of events has been finalised.

On visiting the festival, you will also come face-to-face with Romans from the age of Vespasian, as well as knights of Middle Ages, Napoleonic riflemen and Tommies from the two world wars. The best living historians are not only among the most informed people on any given period, they also know how to bring the past back to life in an exciting and visually compelling way.

Throughout the week, we host a through-the-ages encampment, and our living historians will be providing a large number of interactive demonstrations, historical narratives and offering a wonderful and immensely well-informed window onto the past. From Romans to the Second World War, and with displays by some of the very best re-enactors and historical interpreters in the UK. With an air show featuring historic aircraft, and with Sword School, Have-a-Go Archery, an interactive First World War trench experience, and jousts and battle re-enactments, there is much to see for all the family.

Armed Forces Day 2019 will be held in Salisbury, a city steeped in military history. The event, which will be the eleventh Armed Forces Day, will be hosted by Wiltshire County Council with support from the Ministry of Defence

Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Armed Forces Day

Wycombe Air Park, Marlow, Buckinghamshire, SL7 3DP

    https://www.buckscc.gov.uk/

Armed Forces Day is a national event which gives the country the opportunity to say thank you to the men and women of the armed forces, past and present, for the work that they do in protecting our nation.

In Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes, traditionally we hold a family friendly celebration for our local forces families and the wider Bucks community and the date provisionally pencilled in for next year is Saturday 29th June 2019.

A spectacular day of family fun is proposed with highlights hopefully including an air display, live music and entertainment, funfair and stalls at a new venue of Wycombe Air Park. However, to make the event possible we need support from our local businesses and communities.

We are looking for sponsors to help us deliver another memorable day in 2019, on what will be the 10th anniversary of Armed Forces Day. In order to run at all, the event needs to be totally funded by sponsorship, donations and income generated on the day itself. Any profit generated will help to fund the next Armed Forces Day in 2021.

It is an ideal opportunity for businesses across the county and beyond to demonstrate their social responsibility and community engagement. We have a number of designed packages for organisations and individuals to take up. Details are available from the Civic and Ceremonial Events Team: [email protected]

The Open University has been a long serving sponsor of the event in previous years and has committed to once again sponsoring Armed Forces Day in 2019. Lucian Hudson, Director of Communications said: "We are always delighted to be involved in such a worthy event. Our armed forces do so much for us and this is a way of giving something back to them."

Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire who oversees the organising of the event stressed the importance of local support. He said: "We are extremely grateful to both British European Aviation (BEA) and Wycombe District Council (WDC) for offering Wycombe Air Field as a provisional venue for Armed Forces Day 2019 as well as to our wider partners including the Royal British Legion and Buckinghamshire County Council.

"Anyone who has attended any of our AFD events in the past will know what a fantastic day out they make for the whole family. Next year on the 10th anniversary we hope to host another spectacular event and are planning to make the day free for all to attend. It's the perfect way to show our support to our armed forces families locally.

"However, the reality that we face is, the event cannot happen without support from our local business community. We've been so lucky in the past to receive great support to help us put on the event and once again we are asking businesses and organisations to step up and demonstrate their willingness and commitment to supporting their local community."

If you are interested in offering sponsorship for Armed Forces Day 2019 packages start from as little as £250. For more information contact: [email protected]

    Battle Proms

Hatfield House, Hatfield Park, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, AL9 5NQ

    http://www.battleproms.com

The Battle Proms picnic concert takes place in the Queen Elizabeth Oak Field in the leafy parkland at Hatfield House. Legend has it that it was beneath one of the ancient oaks in this field that the young Queen Elizabeth I heard that she was to be Queen of England.

The Old Palace at Hatfield House is where Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood and later held her first Council of State in November 1558. The celebrated Jacobean House has been the family home to the Cecils since it was built in 1611.  A place so steeped in history makes the perfect setting for a summer celebration with the Battle Proms.

    http://bodminairfield.com/events/cornwall-strut-fly-in-2/

Join us for this Cornwall Strut Fly In ……based at Bodmin Airfield and covering the west in conjunction with the Devon Strut.

A Strut is the name given to a branch of the Light Aircraft Association (LAA) and each Strut works in unison with and under the LAA which in turn has produced the UK’s largest general aviation organisation. The LAA not only enables people to build and maintain their own aircraft, renovate and enjoy vintage and classic types, it also has a coaching scheme amongst its many assets and attributes. In fact it is pretty essential to be a  member of the LAA if you are pilot or enthusiast in the UK.

All are welcome at our events and remember we have the Diner 31 cafe available for food and beverages.
