Birkdale Sands has always been associated with aviation and was even a licensed airport at one stage. The Southport Airshow is now a three day event with a spectacular opening event on Friday evening with a flying display set against the sunset. Over the weekend, a wide range of action takes place in the air from parachutists to the latest aerobatic and military displays.
