Easter RAF Celebration at Cotswold Airport

Cotswold Airport, Kemble, Gloucestershire, GL7 6BA

    http://www.cotswoldairport.com/events/295

Over the four day Easter weekend we are holding a family fun celebration, with a raffle in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund, to mark the centenary of the RAF. The 100th birthday of the RAF is 1st April 2018, Easter Sunday. Cotswold Airport has strong affiliations with the RAF, not least being famous for once being home to the Red Arrows.

We will be playing RAF music all weekend; there will be a giant inflatable slide and a toddler play area; free chocolate aeroplanes for all children eating lunch in AV8; a free classic and vintage car drive-in, with a dedicated parking area for owners to show off their vehicles; a fly-in with free landings for military schemed vintage aircraft; and an extra covered outdoor seating area by the Control Tower, with outside catering of hog roast, jacket potatoes and crepes by the Notorious P.O.D and P.I.G.

    https://www.auster80.co.uk/

In association with the International Auster Club, the Museum of Army Flying and the Army Air Corps, Threshold.aero is returning to Middle Wallop to celebrate another former AAC type; the venerable Taylorcraft Auster. Bigger and better than before, the event will span the weekend of 7-8 April 2018.

2018 marks the 80th anniversary of Taylorcraft Aeroplanes (England) Ltd, the builders of the iconic Auster air observation post (AOP) aircraft. A derivative of the Taylor (now Piper) Cub, more than 1,600 Austers were produced during WWII and the type’s success continued post-war with production of the AOP.9 ceasing in 1961

    National Armed Forces Day Event

    Llandudno, North Wales, LL30 1BG

    https://www.armedforcesday.org.uk/get-involved/afd-national-event/

The event in the historic seaside town will be supported by the Ministry of Defence, together with the Welsh Government and Conwy Borough Council.

The announcement comes as events are held across the UK to mark Armed Forces Day, including the national event this year hosted by the City of Liverpool. Secretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns will join the First Sea Lord and thousands of people at the South Wales celebrations in Caerphilly to honour the work and dedication of our brave Servicemen and women deployed around the world.

Defence Minister for the Lords, Earl Howe said:

    • Llandudno represents a superb venue for next year’s celebrations and I’m sure the town will bring together the whole nation in celebrating our Armed Forces.
    • Wales was the proud host of the national event in 2010 when thousands of people celebrated in Cardiff. The support from the Welsh Government and local communities, coupled with the rich and vibrant history of Llandudno, means that the town is the ideal choice to make the event even more successful in 2018.

Secretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns said:

    • I’m delighted that the national Armed Forces Day event will return to Wales in 2018. This time next year, we will see veterans of wars gone by and soldiers serving in conflicts around the world today marching side by side in Llandudno, united in pride in service to their country.
    • In Wales we have a special connection with our Armed Forces and this annual event gives the public an opportunity to show their appreciation and pride for our soldiers, sailors and air personnel who sacrifice so much for others.
    • Our debt of gratitude also extends to the families they leave behind and the veterans past and present who have dedicated years of their lives to service. I am honoured to mark Armed Forces Day today - and in the years to come - in their company.

Councillor Gareth Jones, Leader of Conwy County Borough Council, said:

    • We are proud and privileged to be named as the Host of the National Armed Forces Day in 2018.
    • Conwy County has a deep affiliation with the Armed Forces and a strong historical link. Llandudno will be a great destination to showcase the outstanding work of the Armed Forces past and present.
    • The event will be supported by all the North Wales Councils and key colleagues across Wales. Serving personnel and veterans of our Armed Forces Community will be assured of a very warm welcome and an event that thanks them for their commitment to keeping the country safe.

North Wales has many current and historic links to the Armed Forces, including and many Regular and Reserve Army units, including the Royal Welsh recruit from there. RAF Valley on Anglesey, is home to a fast jet training base. Nearly 10,000 veterans live in Conwy, supported by a number of local and national charities.

This year, events along the coast included an Armed Forces parade in the nearby town of Caernarfon on 17 June, and today a Forces’ themed street party is being held in Conwy.

The Battle Proms picnic concert takes place in the Queen Elizabeth Oak Field in the leafy parkland at Hatfield House. Legend has it that it was beneath one of the ancient oaks in this field that the young Queen Elizabeth I heard that she was to be Queen of England.

The Old Palace at Hatfield House is where Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood and later held her first Council of State in November 1558. The celebrated Jacobean House has been the family home to the Cecils since it was built in 1611.  A place so steeped in history makes the perfect setting for a summer celebration with the Battle Proms.

    Croft Nostalgia Festival

Croft Circuit, Dalton On Tees, North Yorkshire, DL2 2PL

    http://www.croftnostalgia.co.uk/

Croft Race Circuit invite owners of historic vehicles to another exiting weekend of motoring and military nostalgia.

Held at Croft Circuit, a former WW2 RAF bomber airfield, and following on from the success of previous events, this promises to be another weekend to remember. Historic motor sports on the track all weekend, and historic cars, buses, bikes, military vehicles, dioramas, re-enactors in the show fields, plus flying displays over head.

A huge Military display will be parked along the old east west runway with living history displays and re-enactor groups adding to the atmosphere of the event. In the field behind the start/finish straight, there are classic cars and trade stalls will be selling a variety of  period items and clothing from a bygone age.

Barnstorming flying displays in period aircraft will thrill the crowds and will take off and land from grass runway adjacent to the Military vehicle display.

Period dress is encouraged for both participants and visitors. Many people entered into the spirit of the event last year, including the children, which all added to the atmosphere and spectacle.

There will be many additional attractions to keep the whole family entertained during the weekend. A vintage fashion show will be held in the marquee giving an amusing look back at the days of ‘make do and mend.’

The Shuttleworth Collection exists today because of Richard Shuttleworth’s love and passion for collecting and restoring vintage aircraft and veteran vehicles, preserved after his death by his mother Dorothy. Herself an impressive woman, dedicated to education and the surrounding community, Dorothy’s own story is that of a pretty extraordinary woman!

Today’s event celebrates the contribution of women to aviation, engineering, and to Shuttleworth through an air display of Collection aircraft, and ground show that includes agricultural exhibits, vehicle display, and exhibition at The House.

    CANCELLED - Scampton Airshow

    RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire, LN1 2ST

    http://www.scamptonairshow.com

On September 9-10 Scampton Airshow Limited, with the support of the RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises (RAFCTE), RAF personnel and a hardworking team of volunteers successfully staged a new airshow at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire. The two-day event attracted 50,000 visitors from the East of England and beyond. Organising an aviation event on the scale of the Scampton Airshow involved many stakeholders, significant planning and we are very proud of what was collectively delivered.

However, post-event there remains a lot to reflect on and areas where we would like to improve. As the organiser, we have concluded that rather than stage an airshow in 2018, we will use next year to fully consider the many lessons learnt with the ambition of running an event in 2019. We are very grateful to the many volunteers, sponsors, participants and local agencies, as well as the many thousands of people who attended September’s airshow, for their support.

What could be better than a whole day of LAA & Homebuilt aircraft? Two days, perhaps? We’re giving over the entire weekend to aircraft under the umbrella of the LAA. Camping is available for all aviators and our facilities (including showers) will be available throughout, as Jimmy’s Cafe, the Attack & Destroy Bar, our two museums and a host of other excitements over Saturday Night.

Landing Fees are just £5 if you’re leaving same day. Landing Fee with Camping overnight is just £10.

Some of the companies already supporting the event include The Light Aircraft Company, manufacturers of the Sherwood range of aircraft and one of very few aircraft manufacturers in the UK. Wings and Wheels will also exhibit some of their work; they offer a full paint and interior service for light aircraft; one of very few companies to do so in the UK.

The Shuttleworth Sprint is a ‘classic’ sprint course along a grass runway. It’s purely fun, non-competitive or timed and no racing licences are required, though some of the world’s finest veteran and vintage race cars and motorcycles will be taking part! Entry applications are welcome from pre-1939 vehicles. Visiting car and motorcycle clubs are welcome.

    Daks Over Normandy

    IWM Duxford, Cambridgeshire, CB22 4QR

    http://www.daksovernormandy.com/home/

June 2019 provides us with the very last opportunity to organize Daks over Normandy and to honor those who have paid so much to liberate Europe. Daks over Normandy will be a once in a lifetime event. The skies over the United Kingdom and Normandy, France will be filled with Douglas DC-3/C-47 Dakotas and hundreds of Paratroopers. For the first time since World War II will this many of these magnificent aircraft be assembled in the very place where they saw their finest hour. From 2 to 9 June 2019 over thirty DC-3/C-47’s will come together. Their owners and operators fly them in from all over the Globe. From Scandinavia, The Netherlands and the rest of Europe, from Canada and the United States and even from as far away as Australia. All for what may well prove the very last time. Just so everyone can watch paratroopers jump over Normandy once more and admire these wonderful aircraft on the ground and in the air, where they belong.

The Daks over Normandy event is held in two locations: from 2 to 5 June at Duxford Airfield in the United Kingdom and from 5 to 9 June at Caen Carpiquet Airport in Normandy, France! Both locations where carefully chosen because of their facilities and their infrastructure and because of their World War II heritage.

On 5 June 2019 we will follow into the footsteps of the Greatest Generation! About 250 men and women will board the aircraft in the United Kingdom to, exactly like 75 years before, fly across the English Channel and to jump into the historic drop zones of Normandy. They will be wearing WWII style Allied uniforms and will jump military round parachutes. It will be an event which has no equal. History in the making. Again! Just like in 1944.

During the Airport open days everyone can come, see and touch the aircraft up, close and personal. They will be open so you can take a look inside. They will fly so you can see them in their natural element.  And the paratroopers in their WW2 style uniforms will jump and will prepare for their jumps amongst the aircraft. At the air market you can find and buy your hearts’ delight in all kinds of aviation related items. It will all be a sight to behold, creating unique photo opportunities and a wonderful day out for each and every one.
